The Issue

For so many of us, pets are not just animals. They are family. They comfort us, protect us, grow old with us, and when their time comes, we honor them with love and care, even after death. But Patrick Roy Vereb, the owner of Vereb Funeral Home and Eternity Pet Memorial in Pittsburgh, has shattered that sacred trust.

More than 6,500 grieving pet owners placed their faith in Mr. Vereb to provide a respectful farewell to their beloved companions. Instead, he is accused of dumping their bodies in landfills and handing back ashes from other animals, all while accepting payment and offering false promises.

This was not a mistake. It was a cruel and intentional betrayal. According to Pennsylvania state prosecutors, Mr. Vereb admitted to lying to families and substituting ashes just to make them "feel good for the day." Some were told their pets were buried in shared resting places, but in reality, they were discarded as waste.

Imagine saying goodbye to your cherished pet, believing they were handled with dignity, only to later learn that none of it was real. The heartbreak is devastating. This is more than a violation of contract. It is a violation of trust, of basic compassion, and of the respect every animal deserves.

We are calling on the Pennsylvania Attorney General and all relevant authorities to hold Patrick Roy Vereb fully accountable.
