The Issue

Residents of Mundelein, Illinois and surrounding towns, please join me in demanding for the immediate resignation of Village Trustee Jennifer Grieco following the concerning comments she made during her recent arrest for driving under the influence.

According to the Lake & McHenry Scanner, Grieco was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence and causing a crash in Libertyville.

During the arrest Grieco referenced a personal and professional relationship with a an individual, saying that this person is “a really good friend of mine that I work with.” This statement suggests she believed her connection to that individual, and potentially the authority of their position, might influence the outcome of the arrest.

Video of the arrest can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BRtHelhHu4 with her comment at Youtube timestamp 12:13 and Axiom timestamp 15:12:35.

Repeatedly throughout the video she asks officers "why are you doing this to me?"

Lastly, as she is being put in the responding officers vehicle, she states "I was probably under the influence hours and hours and hours ago."

This entire incident is not just a personal embarrassment for Grieco, but a significant breach of public trust for the residents of Mundelein. Her actions have raised valid questions about her ability to fulfill her responsibilities with integrity and respect for the law.

Mundelein Village Administrator Eric Guenther said in a statement that the village was informed of her arrest and the incident occurred outside of Mundelein and in Grieco’s “private capacity, not in connection with Village business.” In further communications, Guenther has stated "while the Village has its own ethical standards as well rules/regulations/policies those pertain to employees of the Village, which trustee does not fall under."

As such, it is up to the people of Mundelein to urge Grieco to resign.

We deserve leaders who uphold the values of accountability and transparency. The role of a village trustee requires the trust of the community, and Grieco's actions have undermined this trust.

It is imperative that Jennifer M. Grieco takes responsibility for her actions. For the integrity of our local government, I am calling for her resignation from her position as Mundelein Village trustee. Her removal would be a step towards rebuilding trust and ensuring that our leaders exemplify the standards we expect from them.

I urge all residents of Mundelein, IL, and those who value ethical leadership to join me in demanding Jennifer M. Grieco's resignation. Please sign this petition to support this call for necessary action and to advocate for better leadership in our community. Together, we can make a difference and create a better Mundelein.
