Recently, there have been troubling allegations concerning the involvement of UNA-Haiti in facilitating security support from El Salvador to armed groups operating within our borders. These claims necessitate an urgent, independent, and thorough investigation. We urge the U.S. President and the United Nations to take decisive action. We seek transparency regarding the public statements and activities of UNA-Haiti that hint at any unauthorized support to these armed entities.
Reports indicate that up to 80% of Port-au-Prince is estimated to be controlled by gangs, and over 19,000 individuals have been displaced from their homes as of March 2023, according to UN statistics. The international community must not stand idly by as these sobering realities persist. If any illicit support to gangs is uncovered, those involved must be held accountable to the fullest extent of international law. Haiti deserves nothing less than a commitment to peace and justice from the global community.
