The Issue

As someone profoundly affected by the actions of San Bernardino City Animal Services, I am appalled and distressed by their illegal euthanization of highly adoptable dogs. Not once, but twice within the last two weeks, animals were put to death without being held for the mandatory stray/surrender periods as is required under California law. But these are not isolated incidents - they are part of a long-standing pattern of deceptive practices that the establishment routinely engages in.

Disconcertingly, transparency seems to be a foreign concept for the San Bernardino City Animal Services. Requests for public records are met with unyielding silence, a blatant defiance of the California Public Records Act, which underscores their lack of accountability and disregard for state laws. This continued elusive behavior casts a somber shadow over their operations and raises grave concerns regarding the well-being of the animals under their care.

Beyond the walls of this shelter, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. If each one was treated the way this “shelter” has dealt with the voiceless animals of San Bernardino, imagine the alarming rate at which we would be losing potentially adoptable animals.

It is high time we demand accountability from the San Bernardino City Animal Services. We call for an urgent, comprehensive, and transparent investigation into their practices and policies. Sign this petition, take a stance and help us seek justice for our animal companions.
