Demand Investigation and Public Disclosure of Pilsworth South Landfill Site Operations

Demand Investigation and Public Disclosure of Pilsworth South Landfill Site Operations
The Issue
As residents living near the Viridor/Valencia landfill site on Pilsworth Road, Bury, we have been suffering for years from the negative impacts caused by this facility. Our daily lives are severely affected; we can't put our washing out to dry or enjoy our gardens due to swarms of flies and abhorrent smells. We are distressed by what we might be inhaling into our lungs. The situation has worsened over the past year with increased air pollution and a new mountain marring our skyline. In 2021 there were fires on the site for days, releasing untold harmful contaminants into the air we breath.
Despite numerous complaints, no action has been taken to address these issues. Therefore, we demand that The Environment Agency and MP Chris Clarkson undertake an intense investigation into the operations at this landfill site. We also insist that all investigations and compliance documentation be made public so that transparency is maintained.
The lives of Heywood's residents should not be compromised due to poor waste management practices at this landfill site. It is high time that the government take responsibility for ensuring proper regulation and oversight of such facilities in order to protect their constituents' health, well-being, and quality of life. We understand the need to dispose of the waste we generate as a society, and we are all trying to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill, but we should be able to rely on the companies that operate them and the government to put protections in place.
Please sign this petition if you believe in holding those responsible accountable for their actions - your support could make a real difference in improving conditions for us all here in Heywood.
