As an animal advocate and a dog owner, I am deeply concerned about the practices at the Barc Shelter in Houston, Texas. The shelter director, Jarrad Mears, has been accused of euthanizing dogs and cats indiscriminately without allowing fosters and rescues to help pull them from the euthanasia list. This is not only unethical but also inhumane.

Euthanasia should be a last resort for terminally ill animals who are suffering. It should never be used as an excuse to free up space in shelters for healthy animals. However, this seems to be the case at Barc Shelter under Mears' leadership.

Furthermore, there have been reports of harassment against individuals who have tried to call out these wrongdoings. This behavior is unacceptable for someone in a position of authority over vulnerable animals.

We demand that Jarrad Mears be removed from his position as shelter director immediately. We also call on local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into these allegations against Barc Shelter and shut it down if they are found true.
