The Issue

My father, a vulnerable elderly man, has been subjected to life-threatening physical, psychological, and financial abuse since before 2000. Despite my tireless efforts to keep him safe and alive by informing key public bodies like Police, Hospital, and Adult Social Services of this ongoing abuse with substantial evidence in hand, they have refused to take any accountability for their systemic failures. Instead of providing the necessary support and protection my father deserves as a citizen and human being, these organizations have chosen to victim-shame him and expose him and me to risk at the hands of his abusers.

The severity of his situation is not unique. According to Age UK (2017), approximately 1 in 6 people aged 60 years or older experienced some form of abuse in community settings during the past year. The World Health Organization also reports that elder abuse is one of the least investigated types of violence in national surveys.

In our case specifically, these key organizations involved have gone so far as falsifying reports and notes on their systems refuting clear evidence of a pattern of severe abuse over a prolonged period. This blatant disregard for truth must stop now.

We are calling upon these public bodies - Police, Hospital and their Safeguarding Team, Adult Social Services - to immediately investigate this grave matter thoroughly with integrity and transparency; hold those responsible accountable; rectify their systemic failures; provide proper care for my father; ensure his safety moving forward; end victim-shaming practices; respect our rights as victims seeking justice.

My father is currently in hospital exposed to his abusers after coming to a hospital appointment with a bruised face where he disclosed an attack on him carried out by carers in a Nursing home. He is deeply frightened, traumatized, and confused relying on solely me for safety. Despite knowing this the Hospital wants to make a fourth unsafe discharge and the Police refuse to investigate. No Safeguarding has been arranged despite all hospital admissions over four years in this hospital till now. I am afraid for my father's safety, well-being and further decline with all he is suffering. My father, one of the bravest men I know is afraid of everyone but me and keeps asking me worriedly "where will he go?". Asking to go home to his property.

My father becomes so afraid he wets himself. This is heartbreaking to witness. I constantly reassure him and stay with him for as long as I can despite struggling with severe Endometriosis.

I believe my father has been discriminated against due to his gender, race, physical and mental health stemming from the severe abuse inflicted upon him.

My father was admitted to hospital with blunt force trauma to his head causing brain bleed and left to lay in his urine in his home by his abuser who claimed to be his carer and stated that my father had fallen on this occasion, this assault sent my father into a diabetic coma and he has never been the same since. When I identified the abuser I reported numerous specific incidents of abuse, neglect and coercive control to the South Yorkshire Police immediately that resulted in death threats and harassment to me from my father's abusers. A year later my father was then admitted to hospital ICU after being pushed out of his home window 30 to 50 feet, six hours prior to this I had found my father locked alone in his own property despite needing 24 hour care, I called the Police as my father told me to only for two male officers to come and assault and arrest me dropping me near my address with injuries after making threats to throw me in prison overnight should I keep reporting incidents. I did report this incident to the IPOC for them to conclude the officers rushed to judgement and should have had their bodycams on. My father cannot walk since then without assistance with the right side of his body shattered and a fractured pelvis. When my father came around in ICU he told me tearfully his abusers had pushed him and tried to kill him with nurses and doctors hearing this. My father has had black eyes and been screamed at for wanting to speak to me. This is just some of the horrific abuse my father has suffered. All of this can be evidenced. Since driving my father violently out of his own home the abusers have now taken over my father's property despite my father not authorising this as the abusers carried this out fraudulently. As a trauma response my father is blocking out the abuse to cope yet cries most days asking me to take him home.

I managed to rescue my father with no help from the Police before the push leaving him immobile and looked after him alone for a week with no assistance from Adult Social Care. I struggled to carry my father alone and now he cannot walk it is impossible for me to lift him alone. When I made sure my father had the medical intervention he had been deprived of as well as basic food the hospital found my father had suffered a significant stroke. I still have nightmares of all the abuse inflicted on my father but they pale in comparison to the trauma my father suffers and when he cries to me tearfully afraid wanting comfort.

I am my father's primary carer as per his wishes prior to the irreparable damage he suffered that have not been respected going against social work policy. I am my father's safety factor and his voice. I love my devoted father and will continue to do all I can to protect and care for him despite it been made challenging for me by authorities involved and the abusers till now.

I graduated from University obtaining a degree within Social Work therefore I am very aware of the procedures and policies that should be followed. Relevant policies and procedures in place have not been followed. There is no collaborative working and information sharing between the key organisations involved. Assumptions and judgements have been made with facts being ignored till now. The organisations refuse to take accountability and are intentionally misleading despite me logging all proof, instead the organisations have consistently deflected all responsibility only adding to my father's and my trauma and distress.

I have notified all organisations with evidence and hospital's Safeguarding team throughout who failed to notify Police including the current admission. Assault is a criminal offence that the Police have a duty of care to investigate. My father was admitted with unexplained injuries to this very hospital in December 2023, again I raised Safeguarding concerns and the hospital then made a quick discharge with the help of a Advocacy hub advocate placing him back to the care home where my father has been assaulted last week by staff. These organisations have demonstrated they do not act on a person's best interests instead they act for the Local Authority making poor decisions endangering life.

These past few years I have exhausted every avenue to get help for my father only to find there is little to no support accessible for male victims of abuse especially more so if you have any disabilities and are from certain minorities. My proud father has bravely made disclosures only to be ignored. It is hard enough for victims of abuse to come forward especially males and it is completely unacceptable for them to be dismissed when they do. Trauma is not recognised at all despite my father being constantly tearful which is very out of character for him along with other key indicators showing he is a victim of severe abuse.

The abuse to my father started in his late fifties and he is now sixty-five aging him incredibly. The abuse has permanently damaged my then independent fathers life all of which could have been prevented.

Please sign this petition if you believe that every individual deserves dignity in old age without fear or threat from abusers who go unpunished due to institutional negligence or complicity. Please help sign and spread this so my father is safe from any further abuse and neglect. Please help me save my fathers life. Thank you for all who are supporting and signing. After receiving no support aside from certain independent organisations that help victims your support means a lot to my father and I.

Thank you for your comments. I have previously contacted a few MPS who either could not help or told me email them. I will try again and I will be taking this to the press with all evidence.

Thank you Fiona and everyone for your kind comments, support and contributions. Thankfully I have removed my father from the home after he disclosed the assault. I have reported this home to the CQC twice and nothing came of it. I will report them again as I worry for the residents left there. I am trying to find a safe place for my father whilst the authorities seek legal advice on what actions to take next after all the clear negligence. I'm sad there is still no safeguarding in place in hospital for my father and I from his abusers the reason why he was in the home to begin with.
