The Issue

The city of Festus, Missouri, is at a critical juncture where the actions of our City Council have raised serious concerns among residents. The council's aggressive push to introduce a data center in our residential neighborhood is a prime example of this. Many of us feel that the Council has disregarded the voice of the community, violating the spirit, if not the letter, of Missouri's Sunshine Law which mandates transparency in government actions.

The Sunshine Law was created to ensure that government actions remain open to public scrutiny, allowing citizens to have a say in decisions that affect their lives. However, in Festus, many of us have experienced first-hand how these principles are not being upheld. The plans for the data center have advanced rapidly, without adequate public consultation or thorough consideration of the concerns of those who will be directly impacted.

As a concerned resident of Festus, I am calling on our community to demand a transparent and independent state audit of our City Council. It's vital that we understand the true extent of the Council's compliance with legal requirements for transparency and public engagement. We must ensure that our city's governance prioritizes the welfare and voices of its residents over the interests of external operations with potential adverse impacts on our community.

Furthermore, we want to safeguard our neighborhoods from what could be detrimental changes, such as the introduction of large-scale data centers which could lead to issues like increased traffic congestion, noise pollution, and potential environmental damage.

If you believe that transparency in government is crucial for maintaining a healthy community and that the actions of the Festus City Council warrant independent review, please sign this petition. Together, we can ensure that the City Council remains accountable to the people it serves and operates with the transparency that Missouri law requires.
