Growing up isn't easy, and for some of us, it involves spending crucial years in places like Sandy Pines Hospital in Martin County, Florida. I know firsthand because I was a kid who spent 9 months there. Those months were eye-opening, and not in a good way. The so-called treatment and the environment we were subjected to can leave marks that last a lifetime. This institution is a part of the larger "troubled teen industry," and it's about time they are held accountable.
