Each instance where Kern County Child Protective Services (CPS) was notified about an abusive or dangerous household, yet the child remained in harm's way, signals a grievous breakdown in their duty. This is not just a pattern of oversight; it is a pattern of failure that demands immediate rectification.

A thorough and independent investigation into Kern County CPS is essential to identify the gaps in their procedures and accountability. Our aim is to prevent future tragedies by ensuring every report is diligently and competently handled. It’s not simply about assigning blame; it’s about preventing future heartbreak and instilling trust in the systems designed to protect our children.

According to data from the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), effective interventions can significantly reduce the occurrence of child fatalities related to neglect or maltreatment. Here in Kern County, it's crucial to investigate whether the existing protocols are being followed and whether they are sufficient.
