My name Ed is an autistic advocate who, for a long time, struggled and went unsupported after my diagnosis. Today, I provide help to other individuals in similar situations, but I realized that a more comprehensive solution was needed. Adult autism post-diagnostic support is crucial in helping individuals successfully transition into their lives with understanding and acceptance. Yet, our government's funding for these supports is woefully inadequate. According to the National Autistic Society, over 70% of autistic adults in the UK say they are not getting the help they need from social services. Furthermore, 63% report that one simple adjustment could make a difference in their quality of life (National Autistic Society, 2018). This illustrates the crucial importance of funding post-diagnostic support for autistic adults - it is not a luxury, but a basic necessity for ensuring the wellbeing of autistic individuals.
