The Issue

Living off Route 95 exit 89 in Connecticut, our once quiet neighborhood has been transformed into a cacophony of noise.  The DOT has removed the foliage buffer we once had. The roaring engines, constant honking, Jake brakes in the middle of the night and never-ending hum of highway traffic have become an inescapable part of our daily lives. The noise pollution is not just an annoyance; it’s a serious disruption to our quality of life, affecting our ability to relax, sleep, and enjoy our homes in peace.

The State of Connecticut must act swiftly to protect its residents from this escalating issue. We, the residents living around Route 95, are calling on the state to install improved noise barriers that effectively reduce the noise levels invading our neighborhoods. This is not just a matter of comfort but a necessity for our health and well-being.

According to the World Health Organization, prolonged exposure to high levels of noise can lead to serious health issues such as cardiovascular disease, sleep disturbances, and severe stress. Numerous studies have shown the detrimental effects of noise pollution on physical and mental health. By investing in better noise barriers, Connecticut can shield its citizens from these harmful effects and enhance their living conditions.

We propose the following solutions:
1. Conduct a comprehensive sound study along the impacted sections of Route 95 to identify the worst affected areas.
2. Allocate state funds to construct high-quality noise barriers that extend beyond the minimal requirements.
3. Implement landscaping with sound-absorbing vegetation to further mitigate noise intrusion.
4. Regularly monitor noise levels post-installation to ensure effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.

Other states have already successfully implemented these measures with positive outcomes, and there is no reason Connecticut cannot do the same. Our voices should not be drowned out by traffic noise; it’s time for action.

Join us in demanding that the State of Connecticut takes immediate and decisive action to build better noise barriers on I-95. Sign this petition and help us restore tranquility to our neighborhoods.
