The Issue

Residents throughout Huntsville and surrounding North Alabama communities are experiencing worsening USPS service failures, delivery delays, staffing shortages, damaged packages, deteriorating facility conditions, and declining public trust.

These concerns are not isolated incidents. Customers across Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, including Huntsville, Owens Cross Roads, Harvest, and surrounding areas, continue reporting:

Delayed or missing mail

Packages marked “Delivered” before actually arriving

Packages marked “Forwarded at Customer Request” despite no customer request being made

Reports of customers going weeks without receiving mail

Water-damaged packages allegedly left exposed to weather conditions

Severe staffing shortages and excessive overtime

Management and supervisors being forced to deliver mail themselves due to operational collapse

Dirty, deteriorating post office conditions visible to the public

At some locations, customers have reportedly observed:

Sticky floors and counters

Food residue on walls

Water damage and missing ceiling tiles

Aging and visibly neglected facilities

Meanwhile, many employees and local supervisors appear to be working extreme hours attempting to keep operations functioning despite limited staffing, insufficient vehicles, and worsening operational strain.

This situation impacts:

Veterans

Seniors

Small businesses

Prescription deliveries

Bills and financial documents

Families relying on reliable mail service

We are calling for:

Immediate operational review of affected North Alabama USPS facilities

Independent review of delivery scan integrity and backlog conditions

Emergency staffing and vehicle reassessment

Facility maintenance and cleanliness inspections

Greater operational transparency and accountability

Unannounced oversight visits to affected facilities

The people of North Alabama deserve reliable mail service, safe and properly maintained facilities, and a USPS system that supports both employees and the communities they serve.

We respectfully request immediate attention and action before conditions deteriorate further.
