The Issue

**Walter’s motion for early release has been GRANTED. He is coming home!**

The justice system failed Walter Triplett. When Walter went to a bar in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2009, with his cousin and twin sister, little did he know that it would spell doom for him. While the trio were at the bar, a fight broke out which spilled onto the streets. During this fight he noticed two men approaching his sister, one of which assaulted her. He immediately reacted by punching Michael Corrado, who later succumbed to his injuries. A jury of 11 white people and one African American person convicted Walter of felonious assault. Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court sentenced Walter to the maximum, 18 years in prison. In 2011 his case was overturned by The Court of Appeals and remanded for a new trial before Judge Saffold. He was once again convicted by a jury of 11 white people and 1 African American person, but this time his sentence was extended to 20 years.

His experience crystallizes the larger threat to our justice system and the urgent need for reform. By letting Walter's case go unchecked, we are setting a dangerous precedent for future cases, eroding the foundation of justice and liberty in the process. We demand that the concerned authorities reassess Walter Triplett's situation and release him immediately. Stand up for justice, sign this petition to demand the immediate release of Walter Triplett. Walter has filed a motion for early release, to be heard by Judge Joy Kennedy of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

If you would like to support Walter, you can reach out to Judge Kennedy's bailiff (Jeannette Logan-Lane) at: (216) 443-8735 and/or Governor Mike DeWine at: www.governor.ohio.gov/contact and DEMAND the release of Walter Triplett.

Another way you can help Walter is by donating to his GoFundMe. Any money raised will go directly to helping in his new transition and stability after release: https://gofund.me/e25823f9
