Good Evening Everyone

I would like to Thank everyone for signing and sharing this petition as we have now attained just over 2900 signatures. The petition has been shared with:

  • The Township of South Stormont
  • The SDG Counties
  • The St-Lawrence Parks Commission
  • The Office of Nolan Quinn, MPP
  • The Office of Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario

I would also like to Thank Kevin Amelotte, Director of Parks and Recreation (South Stormont), for the updates and information he has provided me concerning the Recreational Path.

Kevin has informed me their meeting with The SDG Counties went well, lots of good discussion and willingness to find options on short term improvements for road safety along County Road 2 between Long Sault Ingleside. They've also met with a consulting team that specializes engineering safer cycling opportunities across Canada and Internationally. Since those meetings, they have since set up devices to collect road counts and speed averages for the past two weeks on multiple roadways. More updates to follow, as The Township and The SDG Counties will be meeting again next week to compile and review the data collected.

The Township has also met with the Management at the St-Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC) on Friday last week.

One of the major issues faced for the construction of the recreational path, are the  multiple stakeholders with jurisdiction/land ownership.

Most of the lands for the proposed recreational path are owned by the SLPC an agency of the Ontario Government, which is why I have included Nolan Quinn MPP, Premier Ford and the Lieutenant Governor in this petition. I have called and email their offices with request for support and information, I have yet to receive a response from any. The SLPC must obtain approval from the Lieutenant Governor in order to sell/dispose of the lands to the Township. Again, I request your help in contacting the office of Nolan Quinn, MPP, to request his help to expedite negotiations.

The SDG Counties has jurisdiction over County road 2 as well as the lands on either side of the road up to approx. 40' from centerline. An option I have suggested to the SDG counties and the Township, was to construct the recreational path within that width. As an example, the distance from the road would be similar to the section of path that runs along the "Laframboise Group" building. Hopefully this will be taken into consideration. As for the "Hoople Bay Bridge" section, I have recommended the quick installation of plastic flexible reflective bollards on the south side.

I would like everyone's input/suggestions for the construction of this path. I have created a FACEBOOK group "South Stormont Recreational Path" Please join and feel free to ask me any question, I will do my best to provide or find answers.

Sincerely,

Stephane Grondin
