I want to share a brief update on where things currently stand.

I formally reported the persistent pollution along the Besòs riverbanks to the Parc Fluvial del Besòs, providing photographic evidence of long-term accumulation of wet wipes, sanitary waste, plastics, and construction debris embedded in trees and vegetation. Their response acknowledged the issue but largely attributed it to recent flooding events and stated that comprehensive cleaning of the riverbanks and vegetation is “practically impossible.”

While I recognise that heavy rainfall can worsen the situation, this explanation does not reflect what many of us have observed over the years. The scale and duration of the pollution point to a structural and ongoing problem, not isolated incidents. Flooding is foreseeable, and effective prevention and mitigation measures should already be in place.

I have since sent a follow-up response requesting:

Clear information on the source of the waste entering the river
Concrete cleanup actions that include riverbank vegetation and trees
Preventive measures to stop solid waste from reaching the river and the sea
Transparency on timelines, responsibilities, and compliance with environmental regulations

The Besòs flows directly into the Mediterranean Sea, so this is not only a local cleanliness issue but an environmental and public health concern with wider consequences.

This petition represents a shared community voice. Continued support helps demonstrate that residents expect real solutions, not temporary explanations. I will keep you informed of any further responses and next steps.

Quiero compartir una breve actualización sobre la situación actual.

He presentado una denuncia formal ante el Parc Fluvial del Besòs por la contaminación persistente en las riberas del río, aportando pruebas fotográficas que muestran una acumulación prolongada de toallitas húmedas, residuos sanitarios, plásticos y restos de obra incrustados en árboles y vegetación. La respuesta recibida reconoce el problema, pero lo atribuye principalmente a episodios recientes de lluvias intensas y señala que una limpieza completa de las riberas y la vegetación es “prácticamente imposible”.

Aunque es cierto que las lluvias agravan la situación, esta explicación no refleja lo que muchos vecinos llevamos años observando. La magnitud y la persistencia de los residuos indican un problema estructural y continuo, no episodios aislados. Las crecidas son previsibles y deberían existir medidas eficaces de prevención y mitigación.

He enviado una respuesta posterior solicitando:

Información clara sobre el origen de los residuos que llegan al río
Actuaciones de limpieza concretas que incluyan árboles y vegetación de ribera
Medidas preventivas para evitar que los residuos sólidos lleguen al río y al mar
Transparencia sobre plazos, responsabilidades y cumplimiento de la normativa ambiental

El río Besòs desemboca directamente en el mar Mediterráneo, por lo que no se trata solo de una cuestión local de limpieza, sino de un problema ambiental y de salud pública con impacto más amplio.
