The Issue

Oscar Sanchez-Corona has lived in Kansas since he was a baby. He grew up in Shawnee Mission schools, built a career in concrete construction, and shared custody of his two young children. Then on August 18, masked ICE agents showed up at his job site in Lawrence and took him away in front of his coworkers.

Over the next 18 days, Oscar was moved between detention facilities in Kansas, Louisiana, and Texas — places his family struggled just to track him down. He was deported to Mexico on September 4, separated from the two elementary school kids who call him dad.

Oscar's family says he is paying, again, for a nonviolent misdemeanor and probation violations from when he was a teenager — mistakes he already served consequences for 15 years ago. "It's just almost like he's a package from Amazon or something, as opposed to a human being," said Skylar Roush, Oscar's brother-in-law, according to The Kansas City Star.

His kids are the ones left carrying this. Before he was taken, one of them drew a picture with the words: "ICE, don't take my daddy." Now they're growing up without him in the house.

Families shouldn't be torn apart over decisions made a decade and a half ago, after someone has spent that time working, raising kids, and building a life here. We're calling on the Department of Homeland Security, ICE leadership, and Kansas's congressional delegation to review Oscar's case and support a path for him to come home to his children.

Sign the petition to bring Oscar Sanchez-Corona home to his kids — before another Kansas family is separated the same way.
