As part of the dedicated teaching staff of Humboldt Unified School District, this plea is personal. We, teachers and our families, wanted to opt out of Kairos insurance. We've witnessed firsthand the impact of rising insurance rates on our district's budget, affecting us all and diminishing opportunities for raises and the welfare of our students. It was astonishing when, despite these devastating implications, 3 members of the Humboldt Unified School District board opted to uphold this plan, contrary to the pleas of the district staff.

The voices of 87% of their constituents are being ignored, with 3/5 of the board disregarding the overwhelming majority and their interests. This leads us to question: who is this decision benefiting? 

Maintaining the Kairos insurance plan over the ASBAIT isn't reflective of the board's responsibility towards its people. A decision aligned with the interests of staff and teachers across the district is what we need—a revote on the current insurance plan.

We, as educators and stakeholders, are demanding a reconsideration and revote on the original insurance plan. If the board is to truly represent and protect the interests of its constituents, it should seize this opportunity to put these matters right before any steps towards a recall become necessary.
