The Issue

I have spent 62 years of my life surrounded by the beauty and grace of horses, and I can tell you with certainty that contrary to popular belief, cremellos are not automatically blind. Every single cremello I’ve come across has been healthy and fully sighted. Yet, cruel myths continue to perpetuate mistreatment against these majestic creatures. It breaks my heart to see how the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is handling the populations of wild horse herds by employing inhumane measures rather than considering responsible alternatives.

Saffron, her mother, and sister are among the many wild horses suffering due to the BLM's methods. The BLM claims to manage overpopulation, but instead of exploring more compassionate and effective options, they resort to tactics that cause unnecessary suffering and fear. This path doesn’t need to be taken when humane and non-harming solutions, like birth control, are available and effective in managing herd sizes.

There's a wealth of scientific evidence supporting the use of immunocontraceptive vaccines, which are proven to control fertility in wild horse populations without adverse effects. These solutions align with both animal welfare and environmental sustainability. Implementing these methods not only preserves the well-being of the horses but also respects taxpayer resources by reducing the expensive and always harmful roundups.

The BLM needs to adopt these responsible methods immediately. The well-being of Saffron, her family, and countless other horses depends on it. By acknowledging and addressing the real needs of these animals, we can ensure both their safety and the preservation of the lands they roam.

Join me in urging the Bureau of Land Management to stop the inhumane treatment of wild horses and to adopt birth control as a humane solution. Sign this petition to demand justice for horses like Saffron, ensuring they can live free from harm and fear. Together, we can make a difference and pave the way for a future where wildlife management is carried out with compassion and respect.
