The Issue

I've seen too many dogs shivering during these cold months, their eyes pleading for warmth and comfort. It's heartbreaking and completely avoidable. No dog deserves to suffer in harsh weather conditions, trapped in inadequate shelters that fail to protect them from the elements.

This petition calls for improved, humane, and enforceable shelter standards for all dogs in Raleigh, Garner, and Clayton, NC. Current regulations are insufficient, leaving countless dogs vulnerable to freezing temperatures, scorching heat, and inclement weather. Our communities have the power and responsibility to change this by adopting new guidelines that ensure all dogs are safe, warm, and well-cared for.

Evidence from numerous animal welfare organizations shows that proper shelter can significantly improve the quality of life for outdoor dogs. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), dogs should have access to a proper shelter that provides warmth, ventilation, and protection from weather conditions, crucial for their wellbeing.

We need to implement specific standards that include insulated dog houses with proper bedding, adequate ventilation during hot months, and access to fresh water at all times. Enforcement of these standards should involve routine inspections and set penalties for non-compliance, ensuring these measures are more than just words on paper.

As residents who deeply care about animal welfare, we must collaborate with local authorities and animal shelters to raise awareness and foster a community that stands against animal neglect. Supporting this petition is a significant first step in ensuring that we offer our loyal companions the dignity and care they deserve.

Sign this petition to urge Raleigh, Garner, and Clayton to take action now. Together, let's ensure no more dogs suffer unnecessarily in our communities. Join us in making humane shelter standards not just an ideal, but a reality.
