Dear Mayor Bass and Councilmember Yaroslavsky,
I am writing to you on behalf of over 200 concerned voters in the 90048 area who have signed a petition regarding the recent approval of a 77-unit development project with no tenant parking provisions. This decision has sparked significant worry among local residents and business owners, particularly along the thriving small business corridor from Crescent Heights to Orlando on 3rd Street.
Our community feels that the approval process was hastily concluded without adequate public notice and failed to consider the substantial feedback provided during previous community meetings. The absence of parking facilities in the new development threatens to exacerbate the already critical shortage of parking space, directly impacting the viability of local businesses. Several popular restaurants and stores, which contribute to the unique character and economic health of our neighborhood, have already faced difficulties, with some even closing their doors.
The community’s concerns are compounded by the lack of adjustments made to the project proposal after significant opposition was voiced in community platforms. This has raised questions about the consideration given to the genuine needs and voices of the local residents and business owners.
We urgently request your offices to reevaluate the approval given to this project, considering the severe implications for traffic congestion and economic strain on local businesses. Our community deserves a thoughtful approach that balances development with the sustainability of existing local enterprises and the quality of life for residents.
We appreciate your immediate attention to this pressing issue and look forward to your support in finding a resolution that respects the community's concerns and promotes a prosperous future for our neighborhood.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
