Demand housing adjustments for college students
The Issue
My son and many other students were promised on-campus housing , only to get an email stating they that they must stay off-campus at hotels. This promise of housing was crucial for our decision to enroll him at this institution. Instead of settling into a dorm, my son is now living out of a hotel, which drastically disrupts his college experience and incurs unexpected costs.
This situation is affecting not just their social life but also their academic responsibilities. The college had assured us of a reliable shuttle service every 15 minutes to facilitate easy commutes, but the reality is quite different. The shuttles arrive irregularly, sometimes as late as every two hours, meaning students miss classes or are forced to spend their own money on alternative transportation, such as Ubers. Moreover, being away from campus housing means they can't enjoy the camaraderie and support from friends in the same way.
We paid for what was termed as 'new dorm housing,' yet our children are not living in these promised accommodations. This mismanagement and broken promise directly impact our children's education and financial well-being.
We petition the college administration to address these grievances urgently. We request that the college provide appropriate accommodations or offer housing stipends to compensate for these unforeseen out-of-pocket expenses. Furthermore, transportation services should be improved, adhering to the original promise of frequent shuttles.
This is not simply an inconvenience; it is a matter of fairness and accountability. We believe that the college must uphold its commitments and treat the students and their families with respect and integrity. Parents, students, and all invested in educational fair play, please sign this petition. Let’s hold the college accountable and ensure that all students receive the housing experience they were promised and deserve.
