Demand Help for Visa Holders Denied Essential Health Services

The issue

Allow me to share a heartbreaking story that reveals a critical gap in our nation’s healthcare system.

A 25-year-old friend and former gym member, who came to this country six years ago, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Like many non-resident visa holders, he is paying full health insurance required and taxes while contributing to our community. Yet, after meeting the requirements to apply for permanent residency, he faced an insurmountable barrier: Medicare’s condition that medical costs must not exceed $86k within the first two years.

Despite maintaining private health insurance (none cover bone marrow transplant) , he is excluded from accessing Medicare services, and his insurance doesn’t cover life-saving bone marrow transplant treatment.

This exposes a deeply unjust policy that forces non-resident visa holders to rely on private health insurance that excludes essential treatments, leaving those with non-genetic blood cancers like him without any viable options.

This systemic inequity denies vulnerable individuals access to life-saving healthcare while they continue to contribute to the system. We urgently need a national review of this discriminatory policy to ensure fairness, justice, and access to critical treatments for all.

Join us in calling for reform. Sign this petition to demand an immediate inquiry into these harmful healthcare policies and advocate for equitable access to essential services for non-resident visa holders today.

The only means he now has to have a chance to save his life is a go fund me page and we also want to highlight this need to change this predicament for all.
