Like many passionate supporters of animal rights, I am appalled and exhausted by the unthinkable animal cruelty committed by individuals like Salomon Cruz-Perez. This man is responsible for one of the most heinous acts of animal abuse ever reported in Florida. His vile action of crucifying his own dogs bears testament to the monstrous indifference some people possess towards innocent animals. A meager $10,000 fine does not in any way equate to the severity of the pain and suffering endured by his pets, nor does it send a strong enough message to other potential animal abusers.

According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Florida ranks 15th in the nation in terms of strictness of animal abuse laws. The laws need to be stricter. This matters to me personally, because I am completely disheartened by the daily reports of severe animal abuse and neglect.

We are calling on the local and state legal authorities in Florida to prosecute Salomon Cruz-Perez to the fullest extent that the law allows ( the death penalty) for his unspeakable crime. We urge them to consider introducing more severe penalties to deter such atrocious acts in the future. Furthermore, if the current laws do not allow for a punishment that matches the severity of this crime, it is a clear call to our elected officials to work on legislation that will.
