Recently, our block cat, Garfield, a cherished Ginger-striped feline fell victim to an abhorrent act of animal cruelty. Known and loved for her genteel and congenial nature, Garfield was a permanent fixture on our block, often seen basking at the void deck under, harmlessly interacting with children and canines alike.

Tragically, a cruel individual ended her life prematurely. The monster didn't spare a thought before embarking on their vicious exploits that involved kicking, hitting, and eventually throwing Garfield down from the 38th floor, ending her innocent life. The pain and agony experienced by Garfield, and the profound grief felt by our residents, have underscored the urgent need for reform.

Subsequent investigations have revealed that this incident isn't isolated, but a dark testament to a growing issue. According to Singapore's Animal and Veterinary Service, 111 cases of animal cruelty were reported in 2019, a sharp rise from 64 in 2016 (source: Straits Times). This alarming rise calls for immediate and significant action from the Singapore Government Authority.

We, therefore, petition the relevant Singapore Government Authority to rigorously review and subsequently increase the severity of punishment for animal abusers. The goal is not merely punitive but to serve as a deterrent against potential offenders, thus potentially saving many innocent lives in the future.
