Demand Government Action: Provide Safety Training to Safely Intervene in Dog Attacks

The Issue

This weekend I witnessed videos of a horrifying incident where Ian Price was tragically mauled and killed by two XL Bully dogs. What disturbed me even more was the fact that people stood back and filmed the events instead of intervening to save a life. This incident has deeply affected me, leaving me with a sense of helplessness and uncertainty about how to handle such situations.

Seeing the rise in dog attacks across our country, it is evident that we need immediate action to address this issue. We must equip ourselves with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely intervene in dog attacks, just as we are trained in basic CPR techniques. Therefore, I am urging the government to provide a safety video or training program on how to deal with dog attacks for both humans and other animals.

Dog attacks have become alarmingly common, posing serious threats not only to human lives but also endangering innocent animals. According to reliable sources their has been a 34% increase in dog attacks over the past 5 years recorded by police in England and Wales and nearly 3,500 dogs were seized in 2022 across 33 force areas - up 36% from 2018 figures. These incidents often result in severe injuries or even fatalities.

By providing comprehensive safety training on how to intervene during a dog attack, we can empower individuals with essential skills that could potentially save lives. Similar initiatives have proven successful before; for instance, CPR training has significantly increased survival rates during cardiac emergencies.

This petition is not only about preventing tragic incidents like Ian Price's death but also about creating safer communities for everyone – children playing at parks, postal workers delivering mail, joggers enjoying their daily runs – no one should live in fear of being attacked by an aggressive dog.

The proposed safety video or training program should cover various aspects related to handling dog attacks effectively and safely:

1) Identifying warning signs: Educating individuals on recognizing behavioral cues indicating potential aggression in dogs can help prevent attacks from occurring.

2) Safe intervention techniques: Providing step-by-step guidance on how to safely intervene during a dog attack, minimizing the risk of harm to both humans and animals involved.

3) Reporting procedures: Ensuring that individuals are aware of the appropriate authorities to contact after an incident, allowing for proper documentation and follow-up actions.

By implementing this safety training program nationwide, we can empower citizens with the knowledge and confidence needed to respond effectively during dog attacks. This initiative will not only save lives but also promote responsible pet ownership and community safety.

I urge you to sign this petition demanding that our government takes immediate action by providing a safety video or training program on how to deal with dog attacks. Let us work together towards creating a safer society where everyone is equipped with the necessary skills to protect themselves and others from these unfortunate incidents.

Together, we can make a difference!
