If like me you are becoming increasingly frustrated and angry with the lack of empathy and support from the Government and Energy providers with regards to constant and soaring energy price rises then you need to sign and share this petition in a show of national strength.

As an energy rich nation why are our energy costs one of the highest is the Western World?

Tariffs and Rates 

So far this year, and its only January 2025, energy prices have risen 1%. It is forecast to rise another 3% in March and a further 5-6% percent in followed by another review in September. All in that will be an increase of 10% in the first six months of 2025. Currently the cost to generate 1Kwh of electricity is around 0.24p, however this is maintained by the price cap (which is something I will touch on further down) I personally pay ) 0.29p which gives the provider about 20% profit!!

Energy Price Cap

This was introduced during the early stages of the Ukrainian Conflict as wholesale energy soared due to our reliance on Russian exports, however, this reliance was grossly exaggerated. In 2021 the UK imported £4.5b of combined energy resources from Russia and now it is around £1b, most of which is indirect https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-9523/

This all means that we are now 4 times less reliant on Russian imports and more self reliant which should mean cheaper energy costs right? WRONG!!!

In 2020 the average cost was 0.15p per Kwh. In 2023, at the height of the conflict it was 0.27p. So can the government explain why our prices continue to increase now that we are less reliant on Russia??

Daily Standing Charge - 

This is nothing short of daylight robbery cloaked as a necessity. These charges are reported as a covering charge for the network infrastructure and averages a cost of £225 per year. I petition for this to be abolished. In most other business's this is known as the cost of running and is taken from the gross profit figures. Couple this with the outrageous government investment in national infrastructure and tax relief for the energy providers to assist with infrastructure improvements, this just proves the standing charge is nothing but a money grab.

Cold Weather Payments For Pensioners

I really dont need to elaborate on this one. The Governments decision to withdraw this is Dickensian in its nature. I petition this to be re-instated and back dated immediatly.

Smart Energy Guarantee

This one is hits close to home for me as it will for countless others. 100s of thousands of people across the nation have been led up the garden path with the whole Eco-house agenda. I purchased a very costly solar and battery storage system following the government rhetoric. The Smart Energy Guarantee is a scheme that pays you for any excessive energy your system has produced and exported on to the National Grid. Basicall between late October and Late April this is 0. When I do export the princely sum of 0.15p per Kwh is paid, thats half of what the provider charges me for importing. Should I not receive the same generation rates and daily standing charge??? 

Why is now the time to act?

It has been forecast that energy prices will rise, on average, 10% year on year until at least 2030, this equates to an average £1.08 per Kwh, an overall rise from the current cost of 270%
