In Cyprus, many residents, including myself, have invested in solar energy as a sustainable and eco-friendly solution to power our homes. However, we've encountered a significant obstacle: frequent grid shutdowns. These shutdowns not only prevent us from generating clean energy but also cause us to lose valuable credits that could cover our electricity bills during sunny days.

It's incredibly frustrating to see the potential of solar energy being wasted due to the grid's inability to cope with the influx of energy generated. Solar households in Cyprus have made substantial financial investments and committed to a greener future, yet we're met with barriers that hinder our progress and financial savings.

The reality is, the grid infrastructure in Cyprus is outdated and in dire need of modernization. According to the International Energy Agency, investing in grid improvements can enhance the reliability of the power supply and maximize the benefits of renewable energy sources. By implementing modern, flexible grid systems, Cyprus can efficiently manage solar energy input and prevent shutdowns that lead to the loss of credits for households.

Furthermore, Cyprus is one of the sunniest countries in Europe, with an average of 330 sunny days a year. It only makes sense to fully harness this abundant resource. Failing to do so not only undermines individual households but also curtails Cyprus's potential to become a leader in sustainable energy.

We urge the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry to prioritize upgrading our grid infrastructure. This will ensure that solar energy is not only a practical choice but a reliable and financially beneficial one for all residents.
