Demand Gender Equal Dress Code Enforcement and Administrative Accountability at CHS
The Issue
We, the parents, students, and community members of Cedartown, Georgia, demand an immediate end to the discriminatory, hostile, and predatory dress code enforcement tactics currently taking place at Cedartown High School.
The student handbook claims to promote a fair learning environment. In practice, the fingertip-length policy is weaponized exclusively against minor female students, treating their bodies as inherently disruptive. Multiple faculty members have openly admitted to students that the strict updates were rolled out because a male teacher expressed that girls' bodies made him "uncomfortable." Furthermore, morning announcements have explicitly targeted "girls," destroying any pretense of neutral application.
This double standard is undeniable. When a male student wore leggings to school in an open protest of the policy, he went unpenalized until 5th period. Conversely, female students are intercepted and disciplined immediately upon arrival, forcing them to miss class or wear oversized men's clothing to avoid administrative scrutiny.
Most critically, we are demanding accountability for severe administrative boundary violations. Assistant Principal Dr. Anthony Wilkinson is actively creating a hostile environment by repeatedly crouching down to eye-level with the private areas of minor female students in the hallways to check their clothing length. This is an egregious abuse of power over young girls that cannot be tolerated.
Our Demands to Superintendent Mark Lumpkin and the Polk County School Board:
Immediate Intervention: Remove Assistant Principal Dr. Anthony Wilkinson from any and all dress code enforcement duties involving female students pending a full investigation.
Policy Overhaul: Review and rewrite the student dress code to make it gender equal, modern, and objectively measurable, eliminating highly subjective and targeted rules.
Equitable Enforcement: Cease the selective targeting of female students and ensure that no student loses critical instructional time over minor, arbitrary clothing infractions.
