Demand Gary Bettman's Apology and Resignation from NHL

The Issue

I am a proud Canadian, a fervent supporter of our national game. However, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, sparked by the fact that under Gary Bettman’s watch as commissioner of the National Hockey League, no Canadian team has managed to lift the Stanley Cup.

Since Bettman assumed office on February 1, 1993, we have watched season after season with no Canadian team taking top honours. There are seven Canadian teams participating in the league. Their fan bases are some of the most passionate and devoted in the world of sport, often selling out every home game. Yet, these fans have been left disappointed year after year.

This is more than a quest for a trophy; it's about respect and acknowledgment of the country that birthed the sport. Given the commissioner's visible influence on the direction of the league, we believe a significant responsibility lies with Gary Bettman.

It is time he acknowledged the impact his decisions have had on the Canadian teams and their fans. We call on him to formally apologize to Canadians for the absence of the Cup in our country. Furthermore, we believe that in order to prevent similar situations in the future, it's time for Bettman to step aside and allow for leadership that will give Canadian teams a rightful chance to excel.

We, thus, urge you to sign this petition to demand Gary Bettman's apology and his voluntary exit from the commissioner’s office. Your support is invaluable to bringing change to our beloved game of hockey.
