Demand full healthcare coverage for chronic, rare conditions, PWDs and all
The Issue
My life has been a constant battle against two confirmed rare neurological and neuromuscular conditions. Despite the severity of my conditions, which can cost upwards of one million Kenyan Shillings monthly, I face the harsh reality of inadequate healthcare coverage. Major insurers like Cigna refuse to cover me, while local providers offer an annual maximum that doesn't come close to meeting my needs. Additionally, some insurers, such as AAR, have even blacklisted me due to my conditions. This leaves me confined to a bed for up to seven months a year, making it nearly impossible to lead a productive life.
This is not just my personal struggle; it's a dire situation faced by countless Kenyans living with chronic and rare conditions. People with disabilities and those requiring biologics are left to fend for themselves, with glaring gaps in healthcare coverage undermining their rights and dignity. The Social Health Authority is mandated to give comprehensive coverage for these individuals, yet these provisions remain unmet. Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, the voice of Kenyan health in parliament, went to parliament on behalf of dollar billionaires, (Wenye Nchi) can she kindly do the same for us Wananchi?
Our call is simple and urgent: ensure equitable distribution and complete coverage of biologics and life-saving medications by KEMSA for those with chronic, rare conditions and disabilities. Everyone deserves a fair chance to live a healthy, productive life, irrespective of their financial means or medical conditions.
Join us in this critical plea for action. Sign this petition demanding that Dr. Mwangangi focuses on us too towards achieving justice and comprehensive healthcare coverage for all Kenyans, not just the privileged. Together, we can hold those in power accountable and ensure our healthcare system caters to every citizen's needs.
We are an untapped tax base. If given the chance we will be able to give our best and build the nation as well. Instead of being bedridden some for over 25 years.
Get us to 30,000 signatures minimum we are the silent majority
