The Issue

In September 2025, police and humane agents discovered 18 dead cats and a dead dog at a home in Canfield, Ohio. The investigation led to Melina Brown, 61, who now faces 22 felony counts of cruelty to companion animals in Mahoning County.

These animals cannot speak for themselves. But we can.

Brown entered not guilty pleas to all 22 counts, covering cruelty that allegedly took place over months. After failing to appear for her first court date, a bench warrant was issued before she was finally arraigned.

We are calling on Mahoning County prosecutors and Judge Anthony Donofrio to pursue the fullest consequences the law allows. If convicted, she should be permanently banned from owning animals.

No animal should suffer and die like this. No case like this should go unanswered.

Sign this petition to demand full accountability for the 18 cats and the dog found at that Canfield home, and to send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Ohio.
