The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and community members of Old Bridge Township, respectfully demand full transparency and reconsideration regarding the recent decision to close and redistribute students from Leroy Gordon Cooper Elementary School.

This decision appears to have been made without clear and direct communication to families, leaving many of us unaware that such a significant change was even under consideration. While we understand that the Board of Education has the authority to make decisions regarding school operations, it is expected that these decisions are made with full transparency and meaningful community awareness.

Under the Open Public Meetings Act, public bodies are required to provide adequate notice of meetings and ensure that the public is informed of matters of significant importance. The lack of clear communication regarding discussions of school closure raises serious concerns about whether the spirit of this law was upheld.

We are not only concerned about the outcome, but about the process. Decisions that directly impact our children, families, and community should not come as a surprise.

Therefore, we respectfully request the following:

1. Full disclosure of when and where discussions regarding the school closure took place
2. Access to all meeting agendas, minutes, and recordings related to this decision
3. A public forum dedicated specifically to this issue, allowing parents and community members to be heard
4. A formal reconsideration of the decision, ensuring that community input is meaningfully included before any final action is taken

Our goal is not conflict, but accountability. We believe in working together with the Board of Education to ensure that decisions are made transparently, fairly, and in the best interest of all students.

Sincerely,

Parents/Guardians, Leroy Gordon Cooper Elementary School
