Demand for Tax-Free (OAS) and (CPP) for Canadian Pensioners

The Issue

I am writing as a concerned Canadian pensioner, witnessing and experiencing the profound financial strain placed upon seniors due to the current taxation of Old Age Security (OAS) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits.

These essential public pensions, intended to provide a foundational income for retirees, are often barely sufficient to cover basic living expenses in today's economy. When these crucial benefits are subjected to taxation, it creates an unbearable burden, forcing many seniors to choose between necessities and eroding their financial stability.

We believe that it is fundamentally unfair and unjust to tax income that is already designed to be a minimum standard of living for those who have contributed to this country throughout their working lives. The principle of a dignified retirement should mean that our core pension income is secure and unburdened by further government levies.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, respectfully urge the Government of Canada to immediately implement legislation that makes all Old Age Security (OAS) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits entirely tax-free for all Canadian pensioners.

This change would not only provide much-needed financial relief but also demonstrate a profound commitment to the well-being and respect of our senior population. It is a vital step towards ensuring that Canadian pensioners can live out their golden years with the security and dignity they have earned.

We call upon our elected representatives to listen to the voices of Canadian seniors and take decisive action to rectify this inequity.

Sincerely,

Wayne Williams and concerned Canadians
