Demand for Stronger Animal Protection Laws in Iowa

The Issue

Iowa is currently lagging behind the rest of the United States in terms of its animal protection laws.

Demand Stronger Animal Protection Laws in Our Community

To Our Local Government:

As members of this community, we have become increasingly alarmed by the rise in animal abuse cases that go largely unpunished. The current laws governing animal protection are simply insufficient, often treating abuse and neglect as minor misdemeanors. This allows offenders to continue harming innocent animals without facing meaningful consequences.

Our Story has resonated with many and unfortunately many have had the same experience as us. This made me more aware of the lax laws in Iowa surrounding Animal Protection Laws!

Our Demand for Change:

We are calling on our local government to take immediate action by strengthening the animal protection laws. Specifically, we request that:

1. Animal abuse and neglect be elevated from misdemeanors to felonies for serious offenses, ensuring stricter penalties for those who cause harm to pets.

2. Mandatory inspections and certifications for all pet service businesses to ensure that animals are treated humanely and facilities are held to the highest standards.

3. Legal accountability for businesses that inflict harm or injury on animals through negligence or force, including required compensation to the victims and penalties for noncompliance.

Why This Matters:

Animal abuse is not an isolated issue. When abusers face only minor punishments, it allows a dangerous precedent to continue. Our pets cannot speak for themselves, and it is our responsibility as a community to protect them. By raising the stakes for those who prey on animals, we can ensure safer environments for all pets and a more compassionate community.

We urge you to sign this petition and demand justice for our pets. It’s time to hold animal abusers accountable and put an end to the cruelty happening in our state.

My hope is that we get enough signatures that our State Reps & Governor can’t ignore the request to have our Animal Protection Laws adjusted and taken seriously.
