Demand for Reservation Reform

The Issue

Reservation was introduced in India with the noble intention of uplifting the underprivileged and correcting historical injustices. While it has helped many, today it needs reform. I belong to the General category, and like many others, I’ve faced countless struggles while preparing for exams like GATE, ssc, police  and applying for jobs. At every step, we encounter a system that treats us as if we have an unfair advantage—when in reality, we are ordinary people fighting the same battles, often without any support.
Reservation should not be based on caste alone. Many individuals from SC, ST, or OBC backgrounds today are financially well-off and still continue to use reservation benefits, while economically weak candidates from the General category are left behind. This is not equality—this is an imbalance.
Here’s what we believe should change:
Reservation should not be part of all system continuously like scholarship, education , selection based exams like iit jee, NEET ETc and government jobs.
It should be limited to once in a lifetime—like a Brahmastra—not repeatedly across education, jobs, and promotions.
If reservation must continue, then apply it equally across all roles—Prime Minister, President, MLAs, Judges of the Supreme Court—so decision-makers understand the impact of the system they uphold.
The truly needy—regardless of caste—should get the benefits. Not those who are already privileged.
A candidate from a reserved category often receives multiple layers of benefit: discounted application fees, lower cutoffs in competitive exams, relaxed admission criteria, and additional job advantages. This continues even into government services, promotions, and medical aid. Meanwhile, a general category candidate gets none of these despite facing similar or worse financial conditions. Is this justice?
We don’t hold anything against individuals from reserved categories. Our concern is with the system that treats some of us as if we are born with advantages we do not have. All we ask for is fairness and equal opportunity.
If you believe in reform that ensures support for the truly underprivileged, not just based on birth but on present reality, join us in demanding change. Share this message. Raise your voice. Let’s create a system that’s fair for every Indian.
