DEMAND FOR PROPER ROOM ALLOCATION FOR STUDENTS AT VIT-AP

DEMAND FOR PROPER ROOM ALLOCATION FOR STUDENTS AT VIT-AP
The Issue
Students residing in hostels are directly impacted by the irregularities in counselling and room allocations. These issues result in unfair room assignments, where students with deserved ranks are denied good rooms while undeserving ones receive them. Additionally, all students have paid a substantial sum of ₹20,000 as a hostel advance, yet the counselling site frequently crashes due to poor maintenance. This not only affects their living conditions but also their academic performance and overall well-being. Furthermore, the exorbitant and inconsistent room prices exacerbate the problem. For example, a two-bedded AC room costs ₹2,10,000, including mess fees, while a similar room with better facilities elsewhere is cheaper. Additionally, a 12-bedded non-AC room with a special mess costs ₹1,50,000, including the advance fee, showing minimal price difference despite the stark contrast in amenities. These financial burdens and inconsistencies contribute to unnecessary stress and anxiety among students.
If these irregularities persist, it will continue to foster an environment of inequality and dissatisfaction among students. Those unfairly treated will face ongoing challenges, including poor living conditions, which can negatively impact their mental health and academic success. The excessive and unjustified room prices highlight the financial exploitation students face. Addressing these issues will ensure a fair and transparent process, where all students have equal access to quality accommodations. It will promote a sense of fairness and trust within the student community, enhancing their overall experience and academic performance
Immediate action is crucial to prevent further injustices and to restore faith in the hostel allocation system. As the new academic year approaches, many students are preparing to move into their hostels. By addressing these irregularities now, we can ensure that all students start the year on equal footing, with fair access to quality accommodations.Delaying action will only perpetuate the existing problems and exacerbate their negative impact on students. Now is the time to demand transparency, fairness, and accountability to create a better living environment for all students.
