We, the undersigned, call on tech companies such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, and OpenAI to add support for the Kurdish languages, Sorani and Kurmanji, across their AI and communication platforms. With hundreds of thousands of Kurds living in the United States, including close to 24,000 in and around Nashville alone, it is imperative that Kurdish speakers are provided with the same access to technology as speakers of English, Spanish, and other supported languages.

In an increasingly interconnected world, AI and interactive platforms have become vital tools for everyday life—whether for accessing information, engaging with services, or communicating across distances. Yet, Kurdish speakers are deprived of the opportunity to fully participate due to the absence of language support. Language isn’t just a tool for communication; it represents identity, culture, and the fundamental right to be heard. By failing to include Kurdish, these platforms are effectively silencing a significant community.

Why this matters:
In the U.S., Kurdish speakers rely on AI platforms for a variety of essential functions: education, healthcare, employment opportunities, and daily communication. The absence of Kurdish language support creates a barrier that limits these opportunities and marginalizes a community with deep cultural roots. By adding Sorani and Kurmanji, tech companies would enable Kurdish speakers to express themselves, access resources, and integrate more fully into the digital world.

Our Call to Action:
We urge tech companies to act now and integrate Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji) into AI platforms such as virtual assistants (Google Assistant, Siri), interactive chatbots, and knowledge-based AI like ChatGPT. This is not just about technology—it is about inclusion, respect, and giving a voice to a community that deserves to be heard.
