Advocates are officers of the court and play a crucial role in ensuring justice and protecting the rule of law. However, in recent times, incidents of harassment, humiliation, and even physical assault against advocates have been increasing across the country.

Almost every day, I come across new videos on social media where advocates are being humiliated, manhandled, or even beaten by police personnel while performing their professional duties. Such incidents are deeply disturbing and send a very alarming message to the legal fraternity.

As an advocate myself, these incidents create a constant sense of fear and insecurity—not only for me but for thousands of advocates across India. When those who defend the rule of law are not safe while discharging their duties, it weakens the justice system itself.

Advocates must be able to perform their professional responsibilities with dignity, independence, and without fear of intimidation or violence. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a comprehensive Advocate Protection Act to ensure the safety, dignity, and independence of advocates across India.

Through this petition, we respectfully urge the Government of India and the Hon’ble President of India to take immediate steps to enact a nationwide Advocate Protection Act that provides legal safeguards and strict penalties against violence, intimidation, or harassment of advocates while performing their professional duties.

Justice cannot survive where advocates are not safe.
