Demand for Immediate Installation of a Traffic Light at Rt. 2 and Glendas Way Intersection
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens of Fredericksburg, urging the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to address the urgent safety issues at the intersection of Tidewater and Glendas Way by installing a traffic light. This intersection has witnessed numerous accidents, some fatal, due to inadequate traffic control measures currently in place.
The intersection of Tidewater and Glendas Way is a bustling area known for its high traffic and pedestrian volumes. Despite repeated appeals to VDOT and the ongoing efforts of Lee Hill District Supervisor Lori Hayes alongside community residents, the response has been insufficient. The presence of mere flashing lights has proven inadequate in managing the safety needs of this intersection.
This intersection's design and current traffic management measures are not suitable for the volume and type of traffic it experiences daily. The recurring nature of traffic accidents at this location highlights a clear and present danger to motorists and pedestrians alike. Each delay in addressing this issue puts more lives at risk.
We demand that VDOT prioritize the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Tidewater and Glendas Way. We call for immediate action to prevent further injuries and loss of life. The installation of a traffic light is an essential step in transforming this intersection into a safer environment for all.
Action Required:
1. VDOT to conduct a traffic and safety assessment.
2. Approval and allocation of funds for the installation of a traffic light.
3. Installation of the traffic light to be completed.
The safety of our community cannot be compromised. We urge VDOT to act swiftly in response to this petition and to prioritize the lives and safety of Fredericksburg’s residents and visitors. Let us ensure that no more lives are needlessly lost at this dangerous intersection.
