Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vehicles affected by the 6.2L V8 engine recall, demand equal warranty protection for all impacted Australian vehicles, regardless of whether the engine passes inspection or is replaced due to defects.

GM’s Special Coverage Program N252494003 in the United States provides extended warranty coverage (10 years or 150,000 miles) ONLY to engines that pass inspection, while vehicles requiring engine replacement due to faults do NOT receive this same protection.

To date, GM has not confirmed any recall-specific extended warranty coverage for Australian vehicles despite the high number of affected Silverado 1500 models in Australia (9,451 vehicles).

Key Issues: 

Unequal treatment – Australian owners deserve the same warranty protection provided in the U.S. recall program. 

Unfair exclusion – Vehicles requiring engine replacement are just as impacted by defects and should not be excluded from extended coverage. 

Consumer rights – Australian Silverado 1500 owners paid premium prices for reliability and should not suffer the consequences of defective engine components without equal protection. 

Failure to announce warranty terms – GM has failed to confirm any extended warranty coverage for Australian models, leaving owners vulnerable to future failures.

Our Demands: 

Equal warranty terms for all affected vehicles regardless if they pass inspection or not; including those with replaced engines.

A formal guarantee from GM Australia that Silverado 1500 owners will receive recall-related extended warranty protection. 

Clear and transparent communication from GM and GMSV regarding how warranty claims will be processed under this recall.

We urge GM Australia and GMSV to immediately rectify this unfair warranty policy and provide the same protections to Australian owners as given in the U.S. recall program. We expect a public commitment from GM ensuring all affected vehicles by the 6.2L V8 engine recall receive equal warranty coverage, regardless of inspection or replacement status.
