The acclaimed “leaders” of our community have made the disappointing decision to fund and invite a man who is known to have used the imbalance of power and guise of religious immunity to abuse multiple women. We are disgusted that our masjid is allowing a speaker who has had multiple allegations on his abuse of power and manipulation of young women in his community, our Ummah. The women of our community have suffered too many times at the hands of men who claim Islamic scholarship and those who protect, embolden, enable, and offer a platform to them. 

We, as a community, demand the cancellation of this event. We, as a community, demand a statement issued in apology to the victims triggered by the decision. We, as a community, demand accountability from those who represent us and demand a standard be held for any and all future invitations for public speakers into our masjid.
