I am deeply moved and concerned by the state of freedom of speech in Saudi Arabia, especially after the tragic murder of journalist Jamal Ahmed Khashoggi in the Saudi embassy in Istanbul, Turkey. As someone who staunchly defends freedom of speech, this matter is close to my heart. Jamal was not merely a journalist - he stood as a voice of opposition against the dictatorial regime of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The gruesomeness and impunity of his murder cast a concerning shadow on this cause.

In the name of justice, we need to ensure that all involved parties are held accountable, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Without accountability, there can be no reassurance of safety for those that raise their voices for progress and change.

The struggle for true press freedom in Saudi Arabia remains an uphill battle. Reporters Without Borders ranked Saudi Arabia 170 out of 180 in their 2021 World Press Freedom Index, highlighting the dire need for accountability and reform. (Reporters Without Borders, 2021)
