Higher education plays a critical role in shaping our future and opening opportunities, but financial barriers often hinder students from reaching their full potential. At California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), the College of Professional & Continuing Education (CPaCE) has become a cornerstone for academic and professional development. However, despite its pivotal role and the impressive enrollment of 23,239 students in the 2023-2024 academic year, these students do not receive any federal or state financial aid ($0). This includes the FAFSA.

This exclusion poses significant challenges. Many students at CPaCE strive to advance their education and careers through the programs offered, yet find themselves stretched financially with no access to the aid that could ease their burden. These students, many of whom are balancing work, family, and studies, face a harsh reality: pursuing higher education without any financial assistance.

The current policy leaves CPaCE students without crucial support. This is not only unjust but also undermines the university's mission to provide inclusive and accessible education for all.

CSULB has the power to change this policy. By extending financial aid opportunities to CPaCE students, the university would not only uphold its commitment to inclusivity but also enhance the success and satisfaction of its entire community. Financial constraints should not be the reason a student is held back from achieving academic success and fulfilling their professional dreams.

We call on CSULB's Financial Aid Office and university leadership to recognize the needs and potential of CPaCE students by revisiting and revising the current aid policy. Implementing an inclusive financial aid system for CPaCE students will reflect the university's dedication to equity and educational advancement.
