Demand FCC to Reinstate NTSC Broadcasting

The Issue

In my personal experience, ever since the moment the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) transitioned completely to digital broadcasting in 2009, I have lost access to many channels that I enjoyed.  Unfortunately, I am far from alone.  I, like many others, have encountered frustrations due to the ineffectiveness of the analog-to-digital converters available.  This has effectively deprived us of daily entertainment, access to news and the warmth that television brought into our lives pre-2009.

Digital television was introduced with the promise of delivering better picture and sound quality.  However, it has torn apart the daily routines of many Americans.  As per the Nielsen report, in 2009, 2.8 million homes in America were unprepared for the digital switch weaving a net of inconvenience across many households [1].

Another problem is the range of digital television.  Analog signals slowly fade away the farther you get from the source.  Digital signals, however, sharply vanish once you get out of range.  While this means that it will be clear until you get out of range, it will disappear completely after the maximum distance of the source.

We ask the FCC to reconsider their decision and switch back to the National Television System Committee (NTSC) broadcasting format, at least partially.  Not all progress is for the better, and in this case, the cost on individual homes overshadows the benefits of collective technological advancement.

Stand with me and countless others who yearn for the simplicity and reliance of the NTSC system.  Your one small action can restore access to information and entertainment to millions of Americans.  Sign this petition to bring back our television!
