NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS WEEK/ CURTIS’LAW

NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS WEEK/ CURTIS’LAW
The Issue
His name was Curtis Leon Williamson his assailant got away with murder in 1997, he was only 16, I need your voice to help make Curti's Law a FEDERAL LAW. My world was shattered when he was brutally taken, The pain and confusion were only exacerbated by the lack of transparency and accountability from the F.B.I. I was left with more questions than answers about when, how, why, and where this tragedy occurred. Their dismissive attitude towards my pleas for justice remains a painful memory even after 24 years. In response to this injustice, I took it upon myself to ensure that no other parent would have to go through what I did. I successfully pushed for the passing of state laws in California (SB1268) and Florida (HB233), known as Curtis' Law, aimed at helping others navigate through the justice system. However, our fight is far from over. It's time for Curtis' Law to become a Federal law so that every parent across our nation can benefit from its protections and so we can finally get justice4curtis. The F.B.I's lack of accountability in cases like these is unacceptable. According to statistics provided by The National Registry of Exonerations (2012), official misconduct played a role in 35% of wrongful conviction cases leading to death sentences between 1989-2012 [source: National Registry of Exonerations]. This statistic highlights an urgent need for reform within our criminal justice system. We are calling on Congress to enact federal legislation making Curtis' Law applicable nationwide - ensuring transparency, accountability and respect towards victims’ families within all law enforcement agencies including the F.B.I. Please join us in demanding change; sign this petition today! Let's make sure no other family has to endure what we went through without receiving justice or answers. FBI letter states Curtis is not the subject but his name was mentioned due to their privacy act his case stand’s homicide unsolved
Subject: Honor Curtis Williamson. Take 2 minutes to ACT.
"To everyone who has signed for Curtis’ Law: Thank you for standing with us. But to turn this petition into a Federal Law, we need to make some noise in Washington D.C.

Please call these two key offices today:

This law ensures families of homicide victims receive the transparency and communication they deserve from law enforcement.
