The Issue

I’m a part of the St. Vrain school district, a community that is currently facing an onslaught of unfair restrictions and policies that are negatively impacting our students' education. Our district has imposed restrictions on iPads, barring us from playing even educational games, which can be an essential tool for interactive learning.

Moreover, the lack of not having snow days at St. Vrain is another issue we face. While it may seem like a good idea not to. But every other district still has snow days. So while we haft to do work and join Webex meetings.  People in other districts can sleep in and go sledding when they want to.

Furthermore, there seems to be a discouragement towards voicing out against these issues within our district. This suppresses open dialogue about problems we face as a community - something crucial for growth and improvement.

According to the National Education Association (NEA), student engagement increases. When we have access to interactive learning tools like educational games (NEA 2019). Additionally, The American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes the importance of safety over attendance during severe weather conditions (AAP 2018).

It's time for a change in St.Vrain school district policies - to change towards fairness and justice; towards better education; and change towards open dialogue without fear or repercussions.
