The Issue

We are calling on Howmet Aerospace corporate leadership to treat its employees fairly following the company's reported profit-sharing calculation error.

Hundreds of union employees at Howmet Aerospace's Niles, Ohio facility have been informed that they received excess profit-sharing payments due to an employer calculation error and are being asked to repay thousands of dollars.

According to local reporting, the alleged overpayments total approximately $4 million, with individual repayment demands reaching more than $10,000.

These employees received the payments in good faith. They were not responsible for calculating their compensation and had no reason to believe their employer's payments were incorrect.

The situation has become even more concerning as employees face proposed payroll recovery arrangements that could reduce their wages to minimum wage while the company attempts to recover the alleged overpayments.

As of November 4, 2026, the union reportedly had still not received documentation substantiating the alleged overpayments.

We believe employees deserve transparency, fair treatment, and protection from disproportionate financial hardship caused by their employer's own error.

WE DEMAND:

1. Full and transparent documentation substantiating every alleged employee overpayment.

2. Suspension of disputed repayment deductions until the amounts are verified and a fair resolution is reached through appropriate bargaining.

3. An end to punitive wage recovery arrangements that could financially devastate employees and their families.

4. Good-faith negotiations with the United Steelworkers to reach a fair and reasonable resolution.

5. Accountability from Howmet Aerospace corporate leadership for the financial and personal consequences of this error.

Employees should not be forced to bear devastating financial consequences for an accounting mistake they did not make.

We call on Howmet Aerospace leadership, Ohio elected officials, and relevant labor enforcement agencies to take this situation seriously.

SIGN AND SHARE TO STAND WITH HOWMET WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
