Radio Silence
Thank you to everyone who recently signed the petition and to all who stand against this unprecedented dues increase.
January has come and gone, and we're already nearly halfway through 2025. The dues increase amendment was originally proposed in January, with the IAC scheduled to meet sometime in April, after the stated effective date of April 1, 2025.
I still have not received a response to the emails referenced in Updates 3 to 5 of this petition. Despite multiple follow-up messages, there has been complete silence.
When I ran into our Local 579 President in the LAX crew lounge on April 17, I was told that a response was pending legal review. It’s now well past that date, and still nothing.
After exhausting the official channels without receiving a single update, I finally turned to social media and posted on the Blue Jumpseat page, which is dedicated to unofficial union discussions.
What’s most concerning, beyond the outrageous dues hike, is the total lack of transparency and communication. The timeline shared in the Local 579's Treasurer/Accounting emails stated that the IAC would meet after the Executive Board approved and submitted the bylaws amendment before April 1. Another email then stated the IAC would meet in April. We are now past both the stated effective date and the anticipated meeting, yet still no update.
Below is what I posted on the page, attaching my original post back on January 6 regarding this issue.

Request for Update on TWU Local 579 Dues Increase
As we approach the end of May, members have still not received any update regarding the proposed dues increase introduced in January. The last official communication, dated March 31, stated that the IAC would meet in April to review the proposal.
Since then, there has been complete silence. My initial post on this issue was shared on January 6 (linked), and I have sent multiple follow-up emails through official channels without a single response. At this point, I am turning to social media in hopes of getting some answers.
- Did the IAC meet in April as scheduled?
- If so, what was the outcome? Was the proposal approved, denied, modified, or quietly tabled?
- If not, has a new meeting date been set, or should members just keep guessing?
Considering the official effective date for the dues increase was April 1, 2025, which has now come and gone, what exactly is the plan if the IAC approved the bylaw amendment? Will members be retroactively charged for the missed months? If so, what does that process look like?
Delays due to scheduling conflicts and personal responsibilities are understandable, but prolonged silence is not. Timely and transparent communication is a basic expectation of elected leadership. Nearly two months without a single update on a proposal originally presented with importance and urgency raises serious concerns about accountability.
Can someone from the board please provide a status update, preferably sooner rather than later?
