Walmart Spark Drivers Demand Fair Pay, Reasonable Delivery Miles, and an End to Unfair Batching Practices
Walmart Spark drivers nationwide are calling for immediate changes to a delivery platform that increasingly demands more work, more miles, and more expenses for less compensation.

To Walmart Corporate Leadership and the Spark Driver Management Team:

Spark drivers are the backbone of Walmart's delivery operation. Every day, we use our own vehicles, purchase our own fuel, pay for insurance and maintenance, and dedicate our time to getting Walmart's products into customers' hands.

But for many drivers, Spark is becoming financially unsustainable.

Drivers across the country are reporting declining base pay, increasingly long delivery routes, four-customer curbside batches, three-customer shopping orders, and complicated deliveries that simply do not pay enough for the work involved.

Meanwhile, Walmart continues expanding its delivery capabilities while drivers shoulder the costs of making those deliveries possible.

More work should mean more pay. Instead, drivers are increasingly being asked to do more for less.

In February 2026, Walmart agreed to a $100 million judgment to resolve Federal Trade Commission and state allegations involving misleading driver earnings, unpaid tips, and incentive payments.

That settlement addressed serious compensation concerns. However, it does not eliminate the broader problems with how Spark calculates pay, structures delivery routes, and treats its independent contractors.

What Spark Drivers Are Demanding
1. Establish Fair Minimum Base Pay
Walmart must establish a transparent and reasonable minimum compensation structure.

Minimum base pay of $2 per delivery mile, excluding customer tips.
Additional compensation when deliveries end far outside active pickup areas.
Pay that reflects delivery time, vehicle operating expenses, and the actual work required.
No continued reductions in base pay while delivery requirements increase.
Drivers should not have to depend on customer tips to make Walmart's base compensation financially worthwhile.

2. End Unfair Batched-Order Compensation
Combining multiple customers into one trip benefits Walmart operationally, but drivers must also benefit financially.

Pay appropriately for every additional customer and delivery stop.
Stop combining three or four customer orders without a corresponding increase in base pay.
Reevaluate batches that combine grocery deliveries with general merchandise deliveries.
Avoid grouping customers so far apart that one delivery becomes an excessively long route.
Provide individual order and stop-level compensation details within batched offers.
A four-customer delivery should never be compensated as though it requires the work of a single delivery.

3. Address Excessive Delivery Distances
Drivers are increasingly reporting offers requiring 15, 20, or even 30 miles of driving for compensation that barely covers operating expenses.

We demand:

Delivery compensation that properly reflects total mileage.
Consideration for the unpaid return trip when drivers finish far outside their delivery zone.
More geographically reasonable batching.
Accurate mileage estimates before accepting offers.
An end to routing decisions that prioritize Walmart's delivery efficiency at the driver's financial expense.
A delivery that takes a driver 20 miles away from the store can effectively create a 40-mile trip.

4. Restore Fair Shopping and Delivery Pay
Shopping orders require drivers to locate merchandise, handle substitutions, communicate with customers, complete checkout, load vehicles, drive, and deliver.

These orders require significantly more work than simply picking up prepared groceries.

We demand:

A minimum $15 base payment for single-customer shopping orders.
Additional pay based on item count, quantity, weight, and shopping complexity.
Meaningful compensation increases for two- and three-customer shopping batches.
Additional compensation for heavy items, oversized products, and difficult deliveries involving stairs or multiple trips.
Greater transparency in how shopping-order compensation is calculated.
Increasing the number of customers or items without increasing compensation is unacceptable.

5. Provide Complete Pay and Tip Transparency
Drivers deserve to understand exactly how every dollar of compensation is calculated.

We demand:

An itemized breakdown of base pay, tips, incentives, and adjustments.
Clear explanations when the final payment differs from the original offer.
Accurate disclosure of delivery stops, mileage, and order requirements.
Transparent calculations for additional stops, shopping complexity, and heavy items.
Accessible records that allow drivers to identify and dispute payment discrepancies.
Walmart must fully honor its existing legal obligations regarding truthful earnings information while providing drivers with greater visibility into how compensation is determined.

6. Improve Deactivation Transparency and Appeals
Spark already provides an account deactivation appeal process. However, drivers deserve a process that is transparent, consistent, and fair.

We demand:

Specific and understandable explanations when an account is deactivated.
A meaningful opportunity to provide evidence and correct errors.
Clear communication regarding appeal decisions.
More effective resolution of mistaken identity-verification failures.
Consistent enforcement of Spark's published policies.
Drivers should not lose access to their livelihood because of preventable verification errors or unclear account decisions.

7. Strengthen Platform Integrity and Fair Access to Orders
Legitimate Spark drivers deserve confidence that delivery opportunities are distributed through a fair and secure platform.

We demand:

Stronger safeguards against fraudulent accounts and unauthorized account sharing.
Effective detection of prohibited bots and automation tools.
Consistent enforcement without unfairly targeting legitimate drivers.
Greater transparency regarding how offers are distributed.
Clear explanations of how driver tiers, performance metrics, and other eligibility factors influence access to delivery opportunities.
Fair competition requires clear rules and consistent enforcement.

Walmart Must Listen to Its Drivers
Spark drivers are independent contractors who have the right to determine which offers are worth accepting.

But having the freedom to reject an unprofitable offer does not excuse a compensation system that increasingly presents drivers with unreasonable mileage, excessive workloads, and inadequate base pay.

Drivers provide the vehicles, fuel, maintenance, insurance, labor, and time that make Walmart's delivery service possible.

Walmart supplies the merchandise. Drivers make the deliveries happen.

We are not asking Walmart to eliminate its profits. We are asking Walmart to recognize that a sustainable delivery platform must also allow its drivers to earn reasonable compensation.

Our Call to Action
We call on Walmart's corporate leadership and Spark Driver management to:

Publicly acknowledge the concerns raised by drivers nationwide.
Meet with representatives of the Spark Driver community.
Review and improve current compensation and batching practices.
Publish a concrete action plan addressing these demands.
Provide a public response within 30 days of receiving this petition.
Walmart has the resources, technology, and operational capabilities to build a delivery platform that works for both the company and its drivers.

The question is whether Walmart is willing to listen.

FAIR PAY. FAIR MILES. FAIR BATCHES. FAIR TREATMENT.

If you are a Spark driver, former driver, Walmart customer, or someone who believes delivery workers deserve fair compensation, please sign and share this petition.

Together, we can demand a better Spark Driver platform for everyone.
